Hi all Am halfway through TTW and am enjoying it very much, have my copy of CR ready (my library was very quick in getting them for me). I'm the opposite Maz, like Dee says I see the stuff we did at school in a different light now even the metaphysical poets which I hated at the time! Happy reading Kaz :o)) |

funny isn't it! I love Far From the Madding Crowd - first read at school, and WW1 poetry, but hated David Copperfield and Emma. Maybe it depends on the teacher you had at the time?? Maz. XX |

Maz, I think the teacher has an awful lot to do with it, if the teacher liked the book then it came to life. I hated Shakespeare at school but have seen some on stage since and quite enjoyed it Dee x |

I studied Shakespeare at school for O level and hated it. then too A level Lit as an adult at evening classes and found I really enjoyed both Shakespeare and Chaucer. I think both are too adult for children. Ann glos |

I have recently been reading some Betjeman, and must admit I quite like it. I also have him reading some of his work on a CD and I could listen to it for hours. Mike , I expect the poems by Zephaniah sound brilliant read by him, it must give a real feel for what he is trying to put over I always wonder when I am reading a poem if I am in fact picking up on what the poet is saying, or what I think he is saying Not sure that last sentence makes sense, but then Mike, as you know, I never have made much sense!!!! Dee :-)) |

ok I will meet myself coming back in a minute lol have finished Linnet Bird and have decided to read Rachel next as I enjoyed Rebecca so much. Hope to finish it over the weekend so may actually be in time for the review lol!! Read the blurb on the back of Hard Times and it is actually Dickens' shortest completed work - only just over 200 pages - so will have a go at that too I think - but doubt that will be finished by 24th! Maz, you are going to be so proud of me!!!!!! I went in to a library today, can't remember the last time I went , other than to the one at the Uni, for course books. They had to issue me a new card as the dog eared one in my purse wasn't valid!!!!! They have ordered a book for me, and I shall now try to resist the urge to keep buying books, and frequent the library, Dee :-)) |

Hi, Glad you realised that in time Maz!! I too have gone straight from TTTW to My Cousin Rachel and haven't yet adjusted to the different style of writing. added to which my book has quite small print so iis a bit of a strain to read in the evenings. I know I have read it before as I have read most of D Du M books, but so far cannot remember it at all. i think I must have read it about 40 years ago so i am not surprised. I am not that efficient Dee, as you know I do have to put up a post asking for reminders of when i should be doing the review thread. I have got it on the calendar in front of me this time so should remember OK. Ann Glos |
