Hopefully you can relax a little yourself now Sarah. Would you believe my hubby loves 'Bob the Builder'? Tells me its the kid in him Hmmm... OMG the girlfriend has forgiven him, amazing what effect a single red rose has on a girl - she'll learn...lol... Oh that made me smile Val, has she had them since? Magi |

No Magi she never took them again only came round when kids where at school or I would go to hers which wasn't often. She never seen the way John is at that time only had Catherine and David as John was nearly 2 wasn't as bad, Catherine would get David very hyper and she ended up on receiving end |

Only in hardback Lynn! Seriously though it is a great book, thought provoking and useful - I've just looked at the clock, you better send me some Val. I get going on a thread and forget I'm two hours ahead of the UK. It'll be me bouncing off walls tomorrow not the kids. Magi |

Glenys the Menace! | Report | 16 Feb 2005 21:43 |
Ooh Lynn, the temptation sometimes ....... lol. I hope I didn't sound as if I was 'preaching', as we've only been parents for 5 years, but that book is really good. It isn't condescending, and it's for experienced parents as well as new ones. Very briefly: if a child is naughty and the issue needs attention, the parent calmly says 'David, that's Stage 1'. If David then does something else naughty within 20 mins, it's then 'David, that's Stage 2'. If David pushes his luck within 20 mins of that, and reaches the 3rd stage, it's 'David, that's Stage 3. Go and sit on the stairs', and he then has to sit on the stairs (or naughty corner?) for the same number of minutes as years of his age, e.g. if he's 8, he sits there for 8 minutes. If he protests, then you can add a few more minutes or take away privileges. That's the gist, anyway. We found our two responded very well to this calm atmosphere, even if they do still try it on sometimes! |

Sounds a good idea but if you have kids who couldn't sit even for 2 mins it is hard |

Sorry Lynne, live a long way from Swansea! Val, our son is very fidgety so we have a similar problem with him. One of our colleagues suggested to Bob and I that if we had a hard day with the kids, when they're asleep just pop your head round the bedroom door and see their angelic faces. Seems to relieve the stress a bit! |
