One family line iam researching had 21 children, 6 sets of twins, this was from the 1950's both parents died in 2007 and 2008.

Said in Newspaper article in 2007 that in 1965 they were listed in Guiness Book of Records as most sets of twins, and given International coverage. This was in Westport Co Mayo.

OH's gt grandfather was one of 20 children ................ all survived into adulthood.

However, less than half of them seem to have married

Most of the babies were born about 18 months apart, the first one only 5 months after the marriage ................. the mother was pregnant for most of 32 years

she died young, in her late 50s, of heart trouble :-(

Hi Debbie

I think I have found the family on the Census'. I have a Platinum Subscription so I thought I'd look into it.

I have sent you a PM with the attached Census', in case you may be interested.

If anyone else would like them, please feel free to PM me.

People often joke that, when they've had a few kids, they could start a football team. That family had enough kids for 3 football teams. They could've been in a league of their own. :-)

I have just come across this family in the Westmorland Gazette, April 25 1857 where there is a copy of an announcement of her 12th set of twins, in Chester, a girl and a boy - which together with other births totalled 32 children at that time.

If my memory is correct this is mentioned by the guide on the Chester city bus tour and their graves are in the local cemetery. Linda

right - I think I have two of them in the 1881:  (this first one would be his son??) I wonder could we contact the newspaper and see if the piece they reprinted referred to a death or if it was just a piece about the man

Debbie

Debbie Report 2 Jun 2004 15:19

Well done to you Zoe that looks like a few sets of twins there. perhaps the paper article meant he John Jonas had died in 1904. So the dates of the children you found would probably be about right. I wish there was someone researching them I would love to know if twins carried on in the family. Debbie

If I remember rightly the person with the most children in this country was a Mrs Mott and she had 46 children around 1670s to 1720s. The person with the most in the world was a Russian woman with 64 or 68 I think. I saw it on TV yesterday. Lindsey
