I have read an article this morning stating that The Bible (Deuteronomy 18 :9) forbids spiritualism. I know that some here are into that sort of thing - I would be interested in peole's views on this. Can Spiritualism go hand in hand with Christianity?? |

Apparently this section of the Bible also (according to interpretation) bans the reading of Harry Potter books. |

Personally kris, I dont have a problem with it and I believe in God, But I know quite a lot of fundamental churches wont tolerate it in any shape or form, calling it false Gods, Caz x |

Yes I think they can.I attend church every Sunday, but,I also have been to a Spiritualist service as well which I enjoyed. Of course I am not talking about a fortune teller, which some people get mixed up and think that is Spiritualism. Some Christian sects though would not have anything to do with Spiritualism, but if you questioned them they know nothing about Spirtualism, but in my humble opinion both religions believe in an after life, and, if people lived their lives according to the teaching of both churches it would be a lovely world we would live in. Peace ,love and harmony, this is the message that Jesus Christ came to earth to teach us and this is what both religions teach. Gwyn |

Like these quote Gwyn, not mine from the bible. Leviticus 20:9 If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death. 20:10 If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death. 20:13 If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death. Deuteronomy 22:20-1 If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the girl’s virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father’s house. |

The meaning of spiritualism is to give evidence of life after death. If you have not experienced it - does that mean its not true ? If you havn't seen god , does that mean he doesn't exist ? |

Sorry Monty,I trotted off to do the ironing! You are quoting from the old Testament. If you read St John chapter 8 New Testament about the woman caught in adultery, you will see that as the crowd was gathering to stone the woman to death (This was the law in those days.),Jesus stepped in and told them 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone'.He knew no one could claim to have not sinned. As the crowd melted away Jesus asked the woman' Is there no one left to condemn you?' 'No one sir' she answered . 'Well then ' Jesus said I do not condemn you either.Go but do not sin again. I hope I have explained this clearly as I tend to ramble! Regards Gwyn |

Hi Gwyn, does this rule apply to all crime then, so if you have sin you cannot judge, don't think so. |

I have to put a reply (but I don't really want to lol), It is my belief that we, humanity as a whole, try to put 'God' and 'Gods word' within narrow confines that we can understand. I do not believe that the words of the Old Testament are necessarily ALL the words of God, for it has to be remembered that not only were they written down by mere mortals (albeit perhaps mortals imbued with the grace of the holy spirit) but also translated many many times (not always correctly) from the original words. As to Harry Potter, I have read them all and can say with confidence that doing so has not affected my soul or my faith, in a sense quite the opposite.....The story is essentially a battle between good and evil , as such Good triumphs owing to love and self-sacrifice.....surely that is not anti-Christian? Regarding 'Spiritualism' by which I assume we are refering to the spiritualist church and/or clairvoyance. When practised in a responsible manner in which faith and prayer are present, I do not see that it is going against Christ's teaching, no-one is 'summoning demons' or 'disturbing the dead', just connecting to a part of God's creation that we cannot see or truly understand until we die. I have probably put this quite badly as I am typing as I think but don't have time to put everything that i would like to say. Rosex |

well said Rose I would class myself as SPRITUAL rather than religious and Churches don't really do it for me. I struggle to make sense of Jesus, although i believe in God. |

to quote Rose re Harry Potter ''The story is essentially a battle between good and evil , as such Good triumphs owing to love and self-sacrifice.....surely that is not anti-Christian?'' end of quote I absolutely agree it is a book, a work of fiction, I have never understood why some people condemn it on religious grounds. It would be interesting to know what their reasons are though. |
