Having just lost a whole reply (!) I just wanted to add that although I can relate to lots of the things that have been said, my abiding memory is of The 'Tank Field as we called it. Fodens Motor Works went over to making tanks instead of lorries and made an unholy mess of the field opposite our house - but we loved it. There was a trench at the far side where we used to hide and then 'shoot' one another, and at one end were scrap tanks which became in turn tanks, lorries, ships etc. depending on our mood. I wasn't allowed to play there but I did. And I'm still in touch with a friend from those days - seems a million years ago now. |

One of the best things we ever did was every winter all the kids would come out and make a slide in the ice down the middle of the street (much to the anoyance of our parents) and spend a day or week depending on the length of the cold weather running and sliding down the length of the street to see who slid furthest.. |

Hopscotch, two ball, skipping, French skipping, marbles, hide-and-seek, exploring, going out on bikes, picking berries, making 'dens', going out with Dad on his 'football pools' round, reading anything I could get my hands on, the 'Bunty' comic, Fuzzy Felt, French knitting (how bizarre was that!), jigsaw puzzles (still love them), Sindy doll....the list is endless, lol! |

Well I had a tommy gun lol! My uncle Fred made it, it was like a football rattle, so I could 'kill' loads of baddies! I was the only girl in our Close and all the boys used to gang up on me - so I had to have a really serious attack weapon in order to win! |
