I'm not convinced about the half-sister Nancy Day entry

Marriage cert reads

September 26th 1931

Father's name Henry Charles Day CABINET MAKER

ErikaH or AG- Wouldn't DECEASED have been recorded under Rank or Profession of father, if this was the same Henry who died in 1915??

And this Nancy was born in 1912, but isn't listed on Henry's Pension Card as a child dependant.........yet, Henry's widow Violet didn't remarry until 1916....

Gwyn in Kent Report 20 Jul 2024 09:15

I'm not convinced of that link either, but will investigate further....

The father would not necessarily be recorded as deceased. It would depend if that question was asked.

When my grandmother married in 1900, her father's information was recorded in the usual way with no mention that he had died in 1876.

As this is on this specific board, look in ‘search all member trees’ to find out if anyone else on GR is researching ANY of the names

ArgyllGran Report 20 Jul 2024 11:22

Nancy Day's father is definitely NOT the same Henry Charles Day.
Her father was still alive in 1921.

In 1921 census:

Nancy, Day
1912
Birthplace: St Pancras, London, England
Residence: St Pancras
St Pancras
London, Middlesex

With Henry Charles Day 1885 (born St Pancras), Florence Day 1891 (Plumstead, father John per 1901 census), and Ann Brian Day 1845.

DAY, NANCY mmn ASHTON
GRO Reference: 1912 D Quarter in ST.PANCRAS Volume 01B Page 54

I don't see a marriage for the parents.

In 1911, "Henery" Charles, cabinet maker, is with his mother Ann Bryant Day and father George Gwynn Day in St Pancras.

He was in the RAF during WW1.
He died in Hampstead in 1948.

I tried that nothing came up, someone said that there was info on GR for jessie Ada day?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 6 Aug 2024 21:28

No GR member has Jessie in their tree on GR, which is why nothing comes up on "Search all member trees".

The only mentions of Jessie in posts on this thread have come from Ancestry, Fold3, and the 1921 census on FindMyPast.

There are records of her on GR, under "Search all records" - but other sites are much better for records.

Here's her birth from GRO:

DAY, JESSIE ADA mmn SPILLER
GRO Reference: 1912 D Quarter in SOUTHWARK Volume 01D Page 104

The next record of her is on her father's WW1 record, which Gwyn posted on 19 July at 23:01.

Next is the 1921 census, which ErikaH posted on 20 July at 11:24.

Fold 3 is a separate part of Ancestry that must be paid for. It now holds most of their service records. Ancestry took over Forces War Records website.
