This dataset contains 1905 records from the Grenadier Guards. The most senior regiment of the Guards Division, the Grenadier Guards were an elite infantry regiment of the British Army.
1656 marks the origin of the Grenadier Guards, formed in Bruges as Lord Wentworth's Regiment - part of the exiled King Charles II's bodyguard. They gained the name 'Grenadier' in 1815 by Royal Proclamation, following the end of the Napoleonic Wars.
