This is strange, the 1891 definetly fits because of Samuel and Rosanna, what have they been up to that makes them change their name. Highly suspicious!!
I wonder under what name Thomas died, I think I will go and have a look

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Feb 2008 05:17

Thomas died in 1872

Deaths Mar 1872 (>99%)

TAYLOR Thomas 56 Mere 5a 157

I think I have the death of Hester Doddington, I think this must be the one, 1897 Bedminster Sep 5c 383 (82) what do you think!!! a slight difference in age which means b1815.

juliag

juliag Report 2 Feb 2008 05:22

It is getting more peculiar, so Thomas death written up as Taylor and Hesters as Doddington.
weird !!!!!

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Feb 2008 05:25

Looks possible

I found Thomas death, as Taylor

When there is a Doddington there isn't a Taylor

When there is a Taylor there isn't a Doddington.

I've others talking about people changing their names ...... but this is the first I myself have come across it!

And Thomas' mother is with them on the 1851 as Taylro!

she seems to revert to Doddngton after he died.

I'll have a look for Samuel, see what happens to him

juliag Report 2 Feb 2008 05:30

Have been looking at my paperwork and yesterday you gave me the marriage of Samuel.
Does this sound right to you.
In 1861 the family as Taylor, the marriage in 1864 of Samuel Doddington, witness father as Thomas Doddington and then again in 1871 you have them down as Taylor and when he dies 1881 Taylor again then 1891 back to Doddington, is that correct.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Feb 2008 05:33

so it looks as though it is Samuel Taylor in 1851 and 1861. The he becomes Doddington on all subsequent censuses.

There is another Samuel Taylor b. ca 1843, Mere, parents Thomas and Sarah who shows on all censsues from 1861 onwards. But his age is constant at 1842/43.

Yesterday you gave me Samuel's so don't waste your time please. I have 1871/1881 Samuel and Rose Anna and in 1891 Samuel Rose Anna and Hester. Samuel died 1904 Camberwell March 1d 520 (60)
They lived in Bedmister, Bristol.

That's what it is looking like.

But I don't know why!

Julia

I just wanted to see if I could trace when and if Samuel changed his name

The facts are that no Thomas, Hester (Esther) or Samuel Doddington show up on the 1851 or 1861 Censuses. Only Taylors

Then Samuel Doddington appears .......... having left home

It stays as Taylor until Hester moves to live with Samuel by the 1891 census.

There has to be a reason .... but who knows???

He must have certainly been up to something but it has to be the same family, we seem to be overlapping on this one, very very interesting.
