With reference to an earlier posting on this thread re 'fly proprieter'. I too had one of those and looked it up.. A fly is a two wheeled horse drawn carriage. A fly proprieter was someone who hired out these carriages.

I see Henrietta's family in Cardiff in 1891 but I don't see her. Could be she married in Wales because Vivian was born in Cardiff too.

Rose - do you have William in 1871 census? As I don't, was he in Scotland?

Thank you for looking.

Maybe they did marry in Scotland - thats a long way from where she was born in Falmouth, isn't it?

Rose

Thank you soooooooo much, I can't find him in 1891 either - thats what I've been doing, looking at 1891 census.

A seed merchant, so Ann was correct when she said something to do with market gardening.

Also the birth you have found is correct as I was wondering if his second name was Stewart/Stenart as that was his son Vivian's second name and Vivian gave it to his daughter

You wouldn't be able to find out without too much trouble when William married Henrietta would you? Don't worry if I'm asking too much!! I think her maiden name was Cornish

Thank you

Well I would think it is some kind of book keeper, perhaps in market gardening/farming/flower growers a bit like todays farm shops! You get some really strange ones.....I saw one the other day A Fly Proprietor!
