Well, have found Harry's birth. 1st Quarter 1922, Harry Barker (mothers name Wild) Volume 9c Page 1091 (if that's of any use).

That spelling of Clarrie born in Sheffield in 1899 matches what i found for a Clarrie Innocent. Will look for census reports now.

I have found a listing in the 1901 census for Clara Wild aged 2 b1899c, mother Clara Wild 22, Joseph Wild 24, Doris Wild 4, address is hard to read. i will download the census page and if you give me your email address, i can send it to you. if you don't want your email address left on this page, delete your comment after.

But i think Jane is right, you might want to get one of the birth certs for either you father or Harry using the above volume and page number.

So where would the Innocent have come from???
Heidi, that 1901 census you have is correct cause i have that.
That 1975 death for her is correct too.
Thanks

Just thinking back, the innocent is unconnected i think cause i have my grandmothers birth certificate and it doesn't mention Innocent anywhere

Heidi

Heidi Report 15 Mar 2008 21:27

Hmmm they certainly make it difficult dont they. i've found Clara Wild b1898 as i've mentioned, and have also found Clarrie Innocent b1900c in the 1901 census. There are many siblings for the Innocents and as alot of families name they're children after parents or favorite siblings, none of these names in either family had Alf or Harry.

I think possibly the birth cert for Harry Barker or your father might give any middle names of their father, which will help the search.

I wish they would put that 1911 census online early :(

Hi Jane

It was me who mentioned MY grandfather was John known as Jack as an example that she might not have her grandfathers first legal name.

Although i thought Innocent might be linked, once i found the cencus log for 1901, i found that she was a year older than Catherine has on her grandmothers birth cert. I started looking at her grandmothers name as the grandfathers name wasn't coming up with anything. I think once she gets a birth cert for either her father or uncle, hopefully it'll give middle names for the parents etc to narrow things down.

Thankyou Heidi
Jane, i appreciate your help but please don't make it sound like i am writing things im not. I think it is you who needs to read back through the thread :)
My grandfathers name was James, nothing else.
Like i said, my grandmother was Clara Wild, her mother was Clara too nee Jackson and her dad Joseph. She was born on 3rd Dec 1898 and as she had her first child on around 1919 then i doubt she would have been a widow.
Will order one of the childrens birth certificates just to make sure the info i have is correct but not sure what i will find out that i don't already know.
Thanks anyway everyone

Catherine,

I apologize for making it sound like you are writing things you did not. I should have been in bed ages before and all I can say is that I was too tired!!

However, I would not discount any link until you have confirmed by certificate that this is not the case as you could be leading yourself in the wrong direction.

Is the 1898 birth certificate the original or one you have ordered? It is just that the Clarrie Barker who died in 1975 has a completely different date of birth. It is listed as 25/04/1899, now I know that death info is only as good as the person who registered it but something doesn't add up.

Kind Regards

Jane

Thankyou jane, will definitely look into that. I guess i could have the wrong certificate, it does happen doesn't it.

Hi Catherine

It looks like the census record I found is correct then if you say Clara's parents were Joseph and also Clara.

It is strange that all of us can't find their marriage listing but I have also had trouble finding marriage listings myself so it does make you wonder if the marriage took place at all. Jane is right though, certificates are only as accurate as the info given by the person who registered it.

Let me know if I can look any further for you, I have access to all the census records and bmd listings (which I think Jane also has access to). I tend to get a little burnt out on doing my own tree so I quite enjoy looking for others (as i reckon Jane is doing too).

Try looking on www.familysearch.org too, they sometimes have good results too. I have looked for your grandparents but they're not listed on that site yet.

Anyway, let me know

Thanks Heidi
I think the Clarie Innocent and James E Barker marriage is a distinct possibility as looking through births there is an Alfred barker whos mothers maiden name was Innocent and we can't find Alfred Barker under the name wild. Also there is a marriage of a Mary Jane innocent to a Wild in 1905 so Clarie may have been born out of wedlock.
If it is her though i have no idea why she would use Innocent as her maiden name on just one birth registry and Wild on the others?
Have ordered some certifcates to see if i can solve the mystery!
Thanks so much for everyones help!

Victoria

Victoria Report 18 Mar 2008 17:35

Catherine,

The reason why may be that Alfred was registered by the hubby and he just put innocent because that is who he married and if Clarrie registered the others then she may have put Wild.

You will have to let us know when you get the certs.

Yes you could be right. They do like to keep up the mystery don't they!
