The 1871 census for John and Septimus is on page one of this thread.

John's father was Robert.

I am totally overwhelmed and very appreciative of all the help and I have been given. I will do as advised and contact Michael by clicking on his name (didn't know I could, so thank you) but I felt I had to add my thanks and apologies here as well. Apologies because - yes - you are quite right; I have confused Mary Ann Robson (John's Bousfield's wife) with Ann Wiseman (Robert Bousfield's wife).

I have been researching the Bousfield/Bowsfield family for 10 years and have hit a brick wall with Walter Bousfield b. bat 1750, my 4 x great grandfather. He married Ann Harrison in Aycliffe in 1772 and they had at least 5 children: Edward, John, Margaret, Ann and Robert. Robert was born in Preston and baptised on 31 July 1785. He married Ann Wiseman on 29 June 1812. They had 3 children - George, Mary Ann and John. This is where the plot thickens. I believe that this is the John who married Mary Ann Robson in 1839. Andrew Plant on Ancestry has also being doing a great deal of research into the Bousfield family and he has on his tree that the John Bousfield who married Mary Ann Robson was the son of William Bousfield b. 1778 and Frances Hutchinson. If Andrew is right, then this leaves me wondering who John Bousfield son of Robert Bousfield and Ann Wiseman married. I plan to send for the marriage certificate today, so should soon know the answer.
Again - thanks and best regards to all
Kathy

Kathy, not sure if you know that the familysearch site has images of Bishop's Transcripts of Parish Records of lots of Northumberland and Durham churches. Use this link and then scroll down to England, Durham Diocese Bishops Transcripts.

I looked for the marriage of John and Ann Wiseman on there - but the page is missing!

Thanks for this evidence of Robert's marriage to Ann Wiseman. I am still waiting for the cert to prove whether John who married Mary Ann Robson was the son of Robert or William Bousfield.

At last I have received the marriage certificate for John Bousfield and Mary Ann Robson (April 7th 1839) and it does indeed confirm that John's father was William Bousfield - a servant at an inn. This means that my tree both on GR and Ancestry is incorrect and this family are not the descendants of Robert Bousfield. I will make alterations a.s.a.p. but would value any help in tracing John the son of Robert Bousfield (abt 1785) and Ann Wiseman (abt 1790).

Is it proven that your line is from Robert and Ann(Wiseman)?

How do you connect with JOHN?

Do you have proof that he survived, and married?

I am not descended from Robert Bousfield and Ann Wiseman. I have been researching who I thought (wrongly) was their family line because I am clutching at any straw that might connect my Bousfield/Bowsfield family to other Bousfield trees that are on Ancestry or which might give me a clue as to the family origin of my 4x great grandfather Walter Bousfield. I am descended from his son John Bousfield (b 1775), Robert's brother. My 3x g grandfather John Bousfield married Dorothy Willoughby.
Thankyou so much for your efforts at helping me to unravel and correct my family tree!
