Find Ancestors

I had a thread up about 1/2 hr ago and went to edit it and accidentally deleted it which is why I am repeating it now. I am struggling to find census information on the Thirlaway branch of my tree. I have George Thirlaway b. 1807 Tyle Sheds, County Durham and wife Elizabeth. They had children Jane b. 1833, Elizabeth 1835, William 1837, Mary 1839, Isabella 1841, George 1844 and Jane 1848. I am trying to find the family on 1841 census onwards, 1851, 1861 etc. However, I cannot find them on either 1841 or 1851 census. The problem may lie in the fact that the surname Thirlaway often gets mistranscribed (parish records etc.) and appears as ThirlAway, ThirlOway, ThUrlaway, Thirlway, Thirleway, Thirwell. Try as I might I just cannot find them. Can anyone help please?

I have been searching for this family with no luck. What information have you got on them? Who have you found in which censuses?

I don't know if this will be any help but there is an area about 5 mins away from my house called Tile Sheds.
I don't know if its the same place but if it is the same as the Tyle sheds mentioned in the original post it is a very small place.
It is between Boldon & Cleadon (Co. Durham as it was).
The nearest large towns at the time would have been South Shields & Sunderland. It roughly half way between the two.
Re Glitter Baby's find for George Hersloway Penshaw is very close by.

I've had a look at Glitter Baby's find for 1851 & I agree with her I don't think it says Hersloway. It looks like Thirlaway to me.

Sorry to have been so long acknowledging these replies but I got called away and have only just - this morning - had chance to check replies. I can't thank you all enough. You have been wonderful. Why oh why can't I be as imaginative. I've tried for hours but got nowhere. I am now going to compile the info and check the census returns as you suggest.

To Margaret Manson - yes that is indeed the marriage of daughter Elizabeth to William Walker. She is my gt gt grandmother and her husband William is another of my problems. He was born Masham, Yorkshire but until he married Elizabeth I have niot been able to find him on any census !!
