Hi Sharon,

Cloth finisher and cloth dresser will be the same thing.

If you need anything else, I'll be pleased to help if I can.

Sharon Report 14 May 2008 09:57

Just checked this morning as have a day off to concentrate on this all important line (wanted as a 70th birthday present for someone who knows nothing about their ancestry).
Many, many thanks to you all for your help in confirming that I was right.
In answer to an early question on the thread the occupation of James at the time of his marriage was a cloth finisher. His father was also called James which fits with the birth cert I have. James Senr is listed as being a cloth finisher on his son's marriage cert and a cloth dresser on his son's birth cert. Possibly this is one and the same thing but I will check in a book of occupations tomorrow.
I will print off all your replies to read thoroughly as I did get lost with the remarriage bit.....
Many thanks to you all again
Sharon

I meant to add these last night but forgot.
There are 2 William Barber deaths between 1851/61 in Dewsbury.

Deaths Sep 1855 (>99%)
Barber William Dewsbury 9b 277

Deaths Dec 1857 (>99%)
Barber William Dewsbury 9b 298

Perhaps one of them was their son

Births Jun 1853 (98%)
Barber William Dewsbury 9b 423

Not to worry about duplicate posts as it just shows we have come to the same conclusion.

Hopefully Sharon will check back shortly and then she can contact other members with the new information. Especially as she has the all important certificate.

Yes Maureen should have put that about relying on other peoples information.

Hope Ancestry take note of the correction.

Some of the posts are duplicated but won't delete.

Have added another name correction to the 1901 census on Ancestry.

Mentioned that mother Ann was a Barber but remarried to Waite and told them to view 1861 census for joined family.

No idea if it will get corrected but if okay will take several weeks before it does show on site

Christine,

Yes it is very important to get the certs.

And also not to trust the information given by other people until you check it yourself.

Brilliant teamwork on this one.

It just goes to show the importance of getting the certificates.

At the moment it looks as if whoever altered the name of Mary A Pickles on the 1901 census to Waite was incorrect. Obviously based the name correction on the name of the mother being Waite.

Naughty obviously did not check their facts correctly and unfortunately they can not be contacted to tell them of their error.
