Me again Denise !!!!
I have found the Neale file at last, its my friends Grandfather the Albert Neale.
He married an Eliza Annie Lodge in Llandudno in 1920 - no fathers name on the cert for Albert. They were both living in Llandudno when they were married, so maybe moved to Dollgellau after.??
Nobody seems to know if Alberts Mother was married- odd ??????
Thanks Sally

Hi Sally,

Found a birth for Eliza;

Births Dec 1892

Lodge Eliza Annie District. Conway Vol.11b Pg.448

Your friend probably has this , can only fnd this one and she's born in Wales, so looks promising.

Albert is another story, very elusive. I'll keep looking.

NUDGE !!!!!!!

Belated Merry Christmas to you all. !!!!

Even after some very helpful info i still can't seem to find Albert - or his Mother for that matter, it says his Grandmother was next of kin, maybe Mother dead?? I am trying to work out the year of birth on his Protection certificate and Certificate of Identity - looks like 1898 - but first page says he was born in 1892 - i have one more birth cert but still not the correct one. Where do i go from here? the Mulled wine is nearly gone!!!
Also where does it say he joined? Thanks Sally

Hi Sally,

Me again!!!

If his Grandmother lived in Birmingham, there's a good chance he could have been born there, what about this one???

Name: Albert Edward Neale
Year of Registration: 1892
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Foleshill
County: Warwickshire
Volume: 6d
Page: 475 (click to see others on page)

We know he must have been born around June 1892 from his army papers.

Hello Dee,
Well thanks for looking but i have that one - when Albert married he didnt have a Fathers name on the cert and even though i haven't spoken to my friends Father recently she tells me her Dad threw out his Fathers Birth Cert because he didnt have a Fathers name on it - i won't say what i said when i found that out !!!!!! but i bet you can guess. !!!

Hi Sally,

Think you're just going to have to sit tight for a wee while until the 1911 census is out, not long to wait, thank goodness!!!!!

I think I could guess what your response was, do it go something like;

B!??!C*S!!!!!!!!!

With his Grandmother Sarah down as his next of kin, it could mean sooooo many things, Mum died, Mum remarried or just Mum married. He could have even been born under a different surname and changed it to the same as his Grandmother.

Sometimes it's so frustrating but lets hope the 1911 census will clear things up.

All the best, Dee xxxx

His birth???

Births Jun 1892 (>99%)
------------
Neal Albert Edward Lambeth 1d 435

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Dec 1892 (>99%)
-------
Neal Albert Edward Marylebone 1a 598

I would say the June one ties in best.

23 years and 4 months of age on 26th October 1915.

Would make his DOB ??/06/1892
