Find Ancestors

Hi All,I've been trying to find a marriage between John Brennan & Emma Griffin about 1856 in Derby,but have had no success just wondering if they ever did marry ! ! although she's on the 1861 & 1871 census's she's down as Emma Brennan,but can't find her in the 1881 or 1891 census's but she's still alive in in 1895 as she's mentioned in her daughter's death inquest in that year.Their eldest child was born 1857 so i would say they got married (if at all ) about that time. If anyone can help find their marriage or Emma on the 1881 & 1891 census it would be appreciated.

Could this be the record? There is only one female.

Are you sure it's Brennan and not Brown?

Hi Joan,Thank you for the info,I have found Emma on the census before she was married it's just the 1881 & 1891 census when she was definately a Brennan that i can't find her.
I did wonder if the marriage was under John Brown & Emma Griffin as John was born in Ireland and may have had a strong accent ! which may have been mistaken for Brown.Don't think Emma was married before as she was born in 1837,which would have made her an extremely young bride first time round

Wonder if the family went to Ireland during the 1881/91 census? Also maybe they married there?

Hi Selena,I have found John on the 1881 & 1891 censusbut not Emma ,Doubt that they got married in Ireland,Emma was born in Derby,and there's a strong possibility that John came over here during the potato famine.

Where did you find John on the 1881 and 1891 census? I found one that was a boarder but it listed him as unmarried on the 1881.

Perhaps Emma was visiting another child during the census. Sometimes I have found people living with other members of the family although they were not on the index of that census.

Hi Joan ,yes that's the right one you found on the 1881 census,don't know why it say's he's not married maybe an error on transcription ! but he's married on the 1891.I beleive he was born in Roscommon 1835c

Hi Joan, Yes that's the right one for her husband in 1891,yes she could have been visiting another child in this census on the 1891 census night which weren't on the index ,i hadn't thought of that ! but where is she on the 1881 ? as the John aged 32 on the 1891 census is her eldest surviving child,Not only can i not find Emma on the 1881 but any of her children apart from John

I can't even find any marriages for Harriet, Margaret or Edward that fits the approximate timeframe. Is it possible that Emma took the other younger children and left England?

Hi Joan,I know that her son John(my 2x Gt.Grandfather) married in 1880 in Derby..Her other children were:-Harriett b.1860,Margaret b.1866,Edward b.1868 & Mary b.1876,all born in Derby
