Thats not what is being said if an old message is seen thats say 1,2,3,4,5yrs old, the likely hood of the person that posted it all that time ago checking it now is zilch so the best thing to do is click on the persons name and send a private message then there's no gaurantee the person will still be a member SO ALL WE ARE SAYING IS REMEMBER TO CHECK THE DATE!

Why are people being instructed to not post replies to old questions in public? I would like to see replies to old questions on the surname boards, thanks very much. If you are viewing them via the unfiltered board and it doesn't make sense you can just ignore it.

I think the problem is that the old Trying to Find messages were the old method where you couldn't t add to the request ,you had to reply by clicking on the originators name.The requests are being resurrected now by people do name searches and on appearance they dont seem to have any replies.
Its Genes updates to the site that have caused confusion .
Some people now still think they will be contacted with info on their latest request cos thats how the system worked in the past so they dont come back to their thread,which is frustrating when you have spent time searching and adding info.

I ageree Ann what is the point of starting to search for the family and then stopping.

If you do not intend to look ny further you should delete the message. Perahps GR should "cleanse" the system a bit more regularly say anything over 3 years old, and not leave it up to the "goodwill" of its members.
