Yes, it's always good policy to work backwards. Robert's cert will have to wait.

I suggest you print all this info off & file it somewhere for future reference.

Happy hunting, Ozi.

I bet it is Robert.

Deaths Mar 1842
MASTERS Robert Biggleswade 6 45

If you can afford to get the cert it might give you some clues. The person who registered the death might have been a relative.

Wow! I've heard of some near misses but that's awful.

I hope you're in contact with some cousins.

I can't find any Robard or Richard Masters so I guess it is Robert.

the only reason i thought it was robert was through a search on here under 1941 census the typed document said robert but i didnt think it looked right and now im really not sure. Thanks again for your help, my Grandad is over the moon he was fostered and didnt know anything about his family. We found out that his uncle died last week and he seems to be the last of them.

No the image is quite clearly Masters though to be fair anyone not used to that style of handwriting could easily mistake it.

The more you get into this lark the more you realize spelling is not something you should get hooked up on!

Actually it's Robert I'm having trouble with. I'm wondering if it's Robard as the end letter doesn't look like a 't'.

Found them - here they are for the info.

1841 England Census
Name: Robert Marten
Age: 50
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1791
Gender: Male
Where born: Bedfordshire, England

Civil Parish: Cockayne Hatley
Hundred: Biggleswade
County/Island: Bedfordshire
Country: England

Street address:

Occupation: View Image

Registration district: Biggleswade
Sub registration district: Potton
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
William Marten 35
Elizzebeth Marten 35
Charles Marten 4
David Marten 10
Mary Marten 8
Lucy Marten 6
William Marten 4
Jacob Marten 10 Mo
Robert Marten 50

Charles is 15, not 4. Jacob is 10 months, not 10 years. Both Robert & William are ag labs. Robert's age could be 80 but difficult to say for sure.

Well I wondered about that. It's not impossible for him to be his grandfather but both generations would have had to marry very young.

the reference number is HO 107/2/11. Do you think that Robert could be Williams Grandfather? Thankyou for the thread.

Ozibird Report 26 Oct 2008 22:22

Kristina, I'm not sure if you've given us the correct details. There is no Jacob Masters/variant born 1831 according to search.

Are you sure you have the right year?

Can't you give us the reference numbers?

Ozi.

Can you give us the exact details for the 1841 with Robert, as I can't find it.

This is the only William & Elizabeth I can find in Bedfordshire so far & there's no Robert with them.

1841
William Master abt 1817 Bedfordshire, England Puddington, Bedfordshire
Elizabeth Master abt 1806 Bedfordshire, England Puddington, Bedfordshire
