No the image is quite clearly Masters though to be fair anyone not used to that style of handwriting could easily mistake it.

The more you get into this lark the more you realize spelling is not something you should get hooked up on!

Actually it's Robert I'm having trouble with. I'm wondering if it's Robard as the end letter doesn't look like a 't'.

the only reason i thought it was robert was through a search on here under 1941 census the typed document said robert but i didnt think it looked right and now im really not sure. Thanks again for your help, my Grandad is over the moon he was fostered and didnt know anything about his family. We found out that his uncle died last week and he seems to be the last of them.

Wow! I've heard of some near misses but that's awful.

I hope you're in contact with some cousins.

I can't find any Robard or Richard Masters so I guess it is Robert.

I bet it is Robert.

Deaths Mar 1842
MASTERS Robert Biggleswade 6 45

If you can afford to get the cert it might give you some clues. The person who registered the death might have been a relative.

Yes, it's always good policy to work backwards. Robert's cert will have to wait.

I suggest you print all this info off & file it somewhere for future reference.

Happy hunting, Ozi.
