I was recently given access to some notes from my gt.gt. aunt's Birthday Book by a fourth cousin, who has been very helpful with many details, but doesn't know anymore than I. Many of the names written there,I have been able to find on various sites giving BMD's,census, search trees, search records, etc. However, I am left with about 20 names I cannot find, even using the above resources. I would like to ask, if some of you good people can help me out..
Gt.gt. Aunty was born in Whittlesey in 1874, and next appeared in the 1891 census as still living there. By the 1901census she was living in Nottingham. I know that she went to live in Builth Wells,Powys, and by the 1911 census, was living in Orrell,Lancs.
She was a strict Baptist, never married, and worked mainley in the confectionery business
So, the names I cannot find any details for, could have come from anywhere.
If any people are willing to have a go at this, I will post the names and what few details I have.
Many Thanks in Anticipation

Thanks Diddydoris and Jacky for responding. I really hope you know what you are taking on, but I have always had great faith in GR mambers who help others, and have had many great results for any queries I have posted. As I said before, the details I am posting are the only details I have.

So here goes.

Can't start now because I have got to do work, just wanted to get this in my threads because Julie was supposed to let me know if she started this thread and she didn't! and it looks like fun.

Have at it, fellow obsessives. ;)

HETTIE RITCHIE?

July 3, 1882, if I've counted correctly.

Births Sep 1882
Ritchie Harriet Maud Sculcoates 9d 187

You wouldn't consider editing your first post to put the birth dates beside the names, would you Julie? Counting down the list is a little confusing, especially when there are two names together in the names list and such.

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 26 Feb 2009 17:47

This would be Harriet Maud Ritchie in the 1891.

Name: Harriet M Ritchie
Age: 8
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1883
Relation: Daughter
Father's Name: Walter
Mother's Name: Christiane
Where born: Hull, Yorkshire, England

Civil Parish: Cottingham
Town: Kingston Upon Hull
County/Island: Yorkshire

Walter Ritchie 42
Christiane Ritchie 40
Ethel M Ritchie 16
Lily M Ritchie 13
William A Ritchie 12
George H Ritchie 10
Harriet M Ritchie 8
Gertrude M Ritchie 5
Christiana Ritchie 3
Irene M Ritchie 1
Florence M Ritchie 3/12

She's Harriet M Ritchee in 1901. Married George Lawrence or Herbert Pickering in 1907 in Sculcoates dist.

Not really the right area?

And of course we don't know whether the women's names are all birth surnames or could be married surnames, I guess.

Oh EvieBeavie- Please slap my hand hard for forgetting to tell you when I was putting this up. Lappy broke down on me yesterday, and only got it back at lunch time today. Was having a quiet hour to myself whilstOH had his senior nap,and thought I would type it as it would take me while.
I hope I am forgiven, and you enjoy?? yourself at work. Join in the thread if you would like when you have the time.
Thanks for the info.on Hettie Ritchie

Yes EvieBeavie,I'll have a go at editing the post, and getting the birthdates next to the appropriate name, though I have very few birth years. I'll have to do this tomorrow,asI am just about to kick a meat and potato pie in the oven for tonights meal.
Again, many thanks

Julia Report 27 Feb 2009 09:45

Good Morning All - At EvieBeavie's kind suggestion, I have just edited my posting to put the birthdates next to the list of names I submitted yesterday, to make easier reading. I hope this helps.
EvieBeavie, though you thought the Hettie Ritchie you found was abit out of area so to speak, we should not forget that our ancestors did move around abit. Some became boarders (for whatever reasons), governesses, pupil teachers etc. Gt. gt. Aunty worked in a confectionery shop and lived in three more areas after her birth area.
Many Thanks to you All

EvieBeavie Report 27 Feb 2009 14:30

So there I was trying to find Harriet Pickering (Herbert) or Harriet Lawrence (George), from the 1907 marriage, in the 1911 ... and of course East Yorkshire isn't there yet ...

There are no Pickering-Ritchie births at FreeBMD, and the Lawrence-Ritchie births start in 1919 so likely aren't that Harriet's.

The problem with the women in the list of course is that we can't know whether the surnames are birth surnames or husbands' surnames!

You're right, people could have come from anywhere, or not lived where your gr-gr-aunt did but been related by marriage, etc. ............

Julia

Julia Report 27 Feb 2009 17:48

Thanks EvieBeavie and everyone for sticking with this. Although I have not added to this thread since this morning, because I have no further information to add, the Lappy is on from about 9.00 in the morning until about 6.00 at night, and I have a look in regularly and will answer all who post any information. I do not want it to appear that I am harrassing you good researchers for a quick fix, as I know these things take time, but I do not want it to look as if I have posted and not returned
Again, many, many thanks
