I am now narrowed down to finding Mary Fryer (1842) -- and given as c.1850 and c.1849 in the 1841 and 1851 census returns. |

I am a bit confused by some of your dates. You say she was born in 1842 but you have found her in the 1841 census! |

Looks like Fryer to me on the 1851 - the P in Potts three lines above is different. |

The only James Perry with a wife Mary, born Sedgeley that I can find in 1881 - and she is too young to be the Mary Ann Fryer in 1851 & 61: |

Joan's 1881 is a better bet than the one I found, as that family are together on the 1871. |

James and Mary had two children Ann Ellen and Lewis (Louis) both born near Stone, Staffs |

So, according to the 1881, whe was born in Sedgely in 1844. |

I actually ordered that birth cert from the GRO. This Mary was the daughter of Joseph and Lucy nee Johnson. |

I think that Mary was born before her mother married William Ellis in 1844 |

I just checked the IGI print out, Martha's husbands name was given as William E. Miss, that could well be a misread Ellis |
