I have finally ordered the death certificate! He died in the lunatic asylum in St Helen's from general paralysis. The interesting piece of information is that the informant was recorded as Ellen Holland, his widow of 3a Nelson St. I was under the impression that Ellen, his first wife, died in 1901, possibly from child birth complications as some had already suggested on this post. However I haven't been able to find any record of him marrying again? Can anyone else find such a record? In 1911 he was living with my great grandmother, Lillian Lawrence Howard. She gave birth to my grandfather in 1915, Walter Holland. |

Walter's birth is indexed under both the surname of his father and that of his mother, indicating that they were not at that time married to one another. |

Thank you Gwyn.. That reinforces what I thought; just not sure where Ellen fits in |
