You title states that he was born 1782, but your openning sentence puts his birth about 1795 ???
Found this, though his age is 'off' But ... who gave his age ? ? ?
searched deaths for the last name BRAGGINTON in the years 1820 to 1900
Death... Reg.No./Year .. 5767/1858 Name .. BRAGGINTON THOMAS AGE 80 YEARS DIED WINDSOR District .. WINDSOR
Australian death certificates usually have a lot of extra info. Not sure about theses very early ones though.
Also, the amount of info would depend on the informants knowledge.

Thanjs to all who have added so far. I have the family details but have just found out he was deported. He was christened 06/07/1782 at Evenlode.
"1819 admitted to Gloucester prison farm labourer aged 24. Sentenced in August of that year and deported for life on the ship Neptune 1 to New South Wales in Australia"
comes from a local book called Glimpses of Evenlode giving the story of the families in the village and how things like Enclosure affected the people.
It is a tiny village and my family were the uneducated labourers.
I am unable to find the death of Hester Braginton his wife or find out how she managed with three young children. Their was no workhouse.
Is Windsor in Australia Julie? Does that mean he made it as I understand conditions on that ship were not great.
Braginton is one of the worse names fo mistranscription I have ever come across
Examples include Bragenton Brag Brock Brockington Bragman Brackinton Bragynton and Bryanston.
His daughter also went to Australia presumably to look for him.
Sarah arrived by the ship "Lord William Bentnick in 1844, as she could read and paid 18pounds 4s for fare and was going to work in Melbourne,Victoria Australia for a Mr James Montgomery for 12pounds a year with rations, she only stayed 3months and was next found on the Schooner "Hawk" bound for Adelaide South Australia.

I have returned after a frustrating trip. Stow in the Wold library was shut, Gloucester archives 50 miles away was shut and I have to return home tomorrow. Evenlode sits on the borders of four counties and there are records in each.

Hi from Australia. Nearly midday here, late starting today.
RE the death info I found, Windsor is on the outskirts of Sydney, NSW
If Sarah came to find her father, she was looking in all the wrong states.
I will have another look for info. using the other surnames which you supplied. As yet I have not even been able to find his transcription records.
EDIT... I have checked out all other variations of the name and no luck. There was 2 deaths of a Thomas BRAGG, but I do not think either is your man

Yahoo ! ! age is a bit out, but at least it's the correct name....
New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849 about Thomas Braggington Name: Thomas Braggington Arrival Date: 1820 Vessel: Neptune Fleet: Second Piece: HO 10/32 Province: New South Wales Title: General muster A-C Year(s): 1837 Place of Conviction: Gloucester Estimated Birth Year: abt 1763 Rats ! ! The original definitely has his age at 57, no error there. Unless the error was back in 1820 and originally recorded wrong.

It is certainly not a common name and he was the only one in Evenlode. The book cites the Evenlode papers as its source hence my unsucessful trip to Gloucester. It would be a remarkable coincidence if two Thomas Braggintons of different ages were deported on the same ship at the same time. Unfortunately the book was written from a local history point of view not a family history point of view.
Ann correctly identified his baptism and he was married by license 1804 His children were born between 1812 and 1817. From my understanding the village had a very clearly defined system of "haves" and "have nots". Mine were definitly the have nots.
Thank you so much for searching for me Julie.

Assisted immigrants arriving at Port Phillip, 1839-51 Surname Firstname Age Events Vessel Year Reel RecordItem Page Remarks Order BRAGGINGTON Sarah Lord William Bentinck 1844 2144 4/4815 89
This states she came as an assisted immigrant (the gove paid her passage). She landed at Port Phillip Bay which is in Melbourne Victoria in 1844. The ship she sailed on was the Lord William Bentinck.
You are able to order a copy of the document. Not certain yet what it looks like. Will find out.
