Think the information Vivienne found was correct. Alexander's occupation on the 1901 census is a Painter.

How do you know that they are Henry and Margaret please.
You didnt say that at the start.

And the children of Alex and Helen/Ellen have all the names of their fathers parents /siblings on the info I have found.

Sorry Viv,
I found his birth on Scotlands People, and thought the Alexander on the passenger list must be him but I was badly mistaken.

If you are still searching for Alexander's marriage to Ellen, have you tried using Helen for the spouse name or even Nell or Nellie as these are all names used by someone with the given name Helen? Often on marriage certificates women use the names that they are known by rather than their "proper" name and also the other way round.

Hello Rootgatherer,
I seem to be clutching at straws with "my"Alexander, thought it might have been him on the passenger list and canadian census with his wife and children , but unfortunately it wasn't, all the signs were there, d.o.b. area of Glasgow they were married etc.
There is no marriage or death for him in Scotland.
I will keep searching.

best wishes
jean

Jean

If they emigrated with their children in 1907, and you have the names and ages of their children, you need to look on Scotlandspeople for the birth certificate of one of the children. This will tell you the date and place of the parents' marriage. The marriage certificate will then give you Ellen's details.

If you already know Alexander's parents' names including his mother's maiden surname then you can find their deaths on Scotlandspeople, assuming that they died in Scotland. If you look for his mother's death first (you can search cross referencing her maiden surname and married surname) the certificate will tell you if she is "married to" or "widow of" thus narrowing the time scale for her husband's death.

EDIT

Jean, Ancestry has a few Alex. Moore entries on incoming passenger ships - alas I don't have worldwide subscription so I can't look at them. Just wondering if he visited family and missed the 1901 census here?

The penny just dropped when I looked at the census for Alexander and realised that it was THE Moore family of Glasgow that this posting referred to. I certainly wasn't quick of the mark this morning!!

Hope you are well Jean and happy hunting!
