Find Ancestors

I am trying to find a birth for my GT GT GT GT Grandad.

William Coulstock born 1837, there is only 2 matches and he isnt there. Born in Chiddingstone, Kent, husband of Jane Coulstock, dont know mmn.
I think they only had 1 child, William born 1862 and found i think the right birth but looks like he may have been a twin as there is a John Coulstock above him ref 2a 415 2nd qtr 1862. But at age 10 he is the only child so maybe i have gone wrong somewhere.

It was not compulsory to register births until 1875 so it simply might not have been registered

The GRO didn't come into being until the latter part of 1837 - and there was no penalty for not registering a birth until 1875

Yes thats the birth and John's reference is 2a 416 same area, Sevenoaks.

Wonder if William is really the son of Jane before her marriage

I was looking at 1971 census and didnt see this!!

Maybe i have wrong year then but thats how i calculated it.

This is on a different page - what makes you think he is William's twin?

The ONLY page number which matters is the one on the GRO index.

In this case, one of the births is on Page 415 - the other is on Page 416

And both are too late to refer to a child whose age on the 1871 census is recorded as 10 years.

He must have remarried to Jane and therefore she wouldn't be the mother of William 1860.
