James & Michaela Report 12 Nov 2009 14:56

Hi All,

I am trying to find a record of Annie Johnson's parents. I know she was b.1852 and married David Lane B.1849 in Birmingham sept 1872.

I have looked for her in the census but cant find a match.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers, James

There aren't any obvious Annie's on census, you are right, but lots of Anne's - no choice but to get that cert!

Hi Jan,

Could be her, but the where born is different, could this be her grandparents mistake.

If it is her, why would she be living with her grandparents?

Cheers, James

Lots of reasons that a child can appear with grandparents on census records.

The Grandparents are infirm and need help.
The child's parents both work
The child was just visiting
The child is orphaned
The child had many siblings and there was more room at the grandparent's house etc.

Dear All,

Do you think it would be fair to assume that this is my Annie Johnson living with her grandparents? Or is it still too wild a guess.

Cheers, James

I think James that if you don't already have it, you need to buy her marriage certificate to find her father's name and occupation.

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page

JOHNSON Annie Birmingham 6d 211
LANE David Birmingham 6d 211

When yo have the marriage certificate come back to your thread here and give us the details if you still require assistance.

As a general rule, you really can't build an accurate family tree based purely on census information.

Why not get her marriage cert and then look for her dad on the census

jansmith

jansmith Report 13 Nov 2009 12:26

she could be Katherine's daughter so turn out to have no fathers name on marriage cert? so as others have said i think the cert is needed.

Hi all,

I have just picked back up my family history after a hectic year. I've sent away for the marriage certificate for David Lane and Annie Johnson. But something I can not find is Tachbrook in Birmingham, Warwickshire.

Any ideas? Perhaps somebody with access could look at the original census for me.

Many thanks, James
