Hi
Hope everyone had a good Christmas
I am looking for help in finding my mothers auntie Jane. She was born in 1860 in Middlesex, london to George and Mary ann EDMONDS.George was born in 1832 in Scotland and he was a baker and confectioner with businesses in Croydon(where the family home was) and Walton on Thames.
Jane was one of 6 children - George,Mary ann,,walter joseph, William frederick and my grandmother Isabella Joan born in 1875 in Croydon
I have lost track of Jane after 1881 when she was still living in Croydon with her father and working in the bakers shop.
In 1891 only George snr, ( mary ann had died ) Mary ann,Walter and Isabella were all together with sister in law Eliza Case.
In 901 George snr is with Isabella - also working in the family business but there is a Frederick Blake age 19 b in Croydon who is grandson to George and a baker.I have never heard of Frederick and as Jane is the only daughter who I dont know about, I am assuming that she married someone called Blake.I know Mary ann's married name was Broyd and my grandmother Isabella 's married name was williams and I know their children.
Although I have Janes year and place of birth from earlier census I haven;t found a definate record of birth which matches - there is a birth in 1860 in Camberwell but her name is Susannah Jane Edmonds and a Jane Edmonds b 1861 in St Lukes ,Middlesex - so I dont know !
If anyone can throw some light on this I would appreciate it.
Thank you
Rosie

thats a start- I suppose its posible that Jane was registered as Susannah and recorded as just Jane in the early census forms. Unfortunalely my ancestry sub has expired and I wont be renewing it until I return to the Uk around April so I'm relying on my faithful researchers to help me out.
Thanks

1861 census.
Mum's name does look like Morgan on the image but could equally be a squashed Maryan. Dad born Scotland and is a master baker so all else seems to fit. Jane therefore born Camberwell:

Hi Rosie
Didn't think the 1861 girl was correct but could not spot the 1860 child, so posted the 1861 for you to eliminate her!

Back to that 1861 again -
William Case - aged 19 - shows as a servant, baker's assistant. He was born in Dorset - Wootton Fitzhaine(?).
Mary Ann (wife) was born in the same place - and I found this marriage:
Marriages Mar 1858 (>99%) CASE Mary Ann Camberwell 1d 496 Scan available - click to view DOUSE Jane Dorcas Camberwell 1d 496 Scan available - click to view DURRANT John James Camberwell 1d 496 Scan available - click to view EDMONDS George Camberwell 1d 496 Scan available - click to view
Will go and rummage in Ancestry parish records to see if I can spot it there to confirm George's occupation etc.

If the information was given verbally it's possible that the vicar/clerk or whoever wrote it down wrote it down incorrectly.
It's also possible that the vicar made a rough note at the time of the baptisms and then copying it out tidily later couldn't read the handwriting.
Either way they are very similar names.

I've just looked at the image for the baptisms. All 3 November.
In order they are:
Mary Anne (b. 4 Oct 1861) looks like Edmonds George (b. 1 Feb 1859) - to me it looks like Edmonds but the M is a bit squashed so someone could read that as a W. Susannah Jane (b. 23 Feb 1860) - looking at that one in isolation it looks like Edwards - but taking into account the other two baptisms it is Edmonds. It's on the top of the right hand page (double-page spread) and the other two entries are at the bottom of the left hand page.

The address ties the 3 baptisms to the 1861 census anyway.
