HOLLOWAY Thomas B Brentford 3a 88
WILLIAMS Thomas B Brentford 3a 76

these are the only possible births in 1910, Brentford.

Where and when did her parents marry?

Yes the birth for Thomas Bertram Johnson is the 07/06/1910 and he died in 1980, his father is Thomas Johnson - 1882, Brendford, Middlesex and mother is Lizzie Annie Maria Jmes - 1888 -Staines, Middlesex - on Thomas death certificate it has the surname Kershaw and does not mention the surname Johnson, mother-in-law and I cannot find out why the surname was changed and her mother never talked about it, her mother Mildred Watts born 03/05/1910, Merthyr Tydfil, Breconshire

Catherine Report 5 Jan 2010 12:24

Could it be that his mother remarried and he was adopted by his new father?

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 5 Jan 2010 12:25

Ok i know this may seem like a silly question....

How do you know you have the right cert?

We cannot find a birth for a Thomas Bertram Johnson 1910 at all on the BMD, and you know him as a Kershaw?

I know we are looking for the answer to the question as to how he got to Kershaw from Johnson, but how can you be sure you have his cert?

Yes it could be a possibility that his mother remarried and that he could have been adopted. Are you able to check the 1911 census for me to see if he is on it.

I have his birth certficate Born Seventh June 1910, Warkworth House, Twickenham Road, Isleworth U.D. (Reg District Brentford) birth registered Twenty Second June 1910

Hmmm found this...

Warkworth House was the Brentford Poor Law Union Workhouse. On the same site was an additional building which was used as the Brentford Poor Law Union Workhouse Infirmary. The infirmary eventually did become the West Middlesex University Hospital which also later absorbed the workhouse buildings. However, up until 1932 the majority of births did not occur within the infirmary building but within the maternity ward of the workhouse. Sadly there are no surviving records from the maternity ward (or any part of the workhouse) for the period when your grandmother was born.

This was written in response to someone else's request for info on Warkworth House, on another Genealogy site.

Could mean that they were separated though?
The original should show if she had any children, living or dead.
