Lise,

I really don't know, however what Leonard may have done is put his "father" down as Mr Killey.... afterall this was the chap that bought him up, and this would be common place to do this.

What maybe a benefit if you can get a marriage cert is the witnesses tho.... these could be family members.

Hi,

The CWGC is the Commonwealth war Graves Commision. here's their url;

http://www.cwgc.org/

I don't see any other children to the Hindley/Glover marriage, but I thought with Leonards death reg the W Derby one would be a closer bet with the age of when he died.

I can't tell you if it would be the correct one though.

Hi Lise,

Re the birth, this would be the marriage for the Hindley/Glover child;

Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marriages Sep 1915 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Glover Florence Hindley Wigan 8c 168
Hindley Gilbert Glover Wigan 8c 168

I can't see a Gilbert Hindley deaths on CWGC.

I would say that the father dying in WW1 maybe a story to cover for the possible illegitemacy birth for Leonard??? Only my theory though!!!

I'm not sure about the IOM, I haven't had dealings with this area before.

have you tried an advanced search just putting in Isle of Man? It may bring up someone who deals with this area???

Hi Aginn Dee,

Firstly thank you for your help.

Joanne Elizabeth maiden name hughan, married Killy, then widowed subsequently married Hakesley in 1965. 1970 she and Mr Hakesleyemigrated to Australia with her youngest son Leonard born 1956, she did pass away in 1983 but was buried in australia.

Hmm !1

Hi Dee
yes i also found that birth along with,

Hindley Leonard Wigan 8c 117

wigan is about 5-8 miles or so miles from where his 5 children were born in salford, saying that west derby isnt that far away either ! :(

Whats the most accuarte way of checking if it is one of these two or not ??

One of my uncles seems to think leonard married in isle of man, but that could mean that just perhaps (grandmother Joanne) was from there, which would account for no records being held for her birth or marriage in england and wales ?? What do you think ?

I googled Isle of Man bmds, that seemed the best, but have a go.

I can't find any marriage in England and Wales.

Hi
Thankyou will give it a try...

Just looked at the site suggested, yes they do charge and i have to register first. Is this the only site that holds records for the iom ? Im not even sure if that is where both of my g/parents originally came from ?

Try this link to the IOM family history society.

http://www.iomfhs.im/default.aspx?CategoryID=21

It says they will do look-ups in their records. They might charge of course. The information on the site is from 2007, so might be out of date.

Hi Flick,
Thankyou so much for that information.
Did your search find the marriage of Killey/Hughan in 1941-1944 listed anywhere ??
Even though i know the dob of both grandparents, why is is so difficult to find there births registered anywhere ?? is it because they may have been born in the isle of man ??
Thanks for your continued help .
