so

who is your ancestor ............ Frederick or George?

Do you have one or both of those birth certificates?

What does it say on there?

Equally important, do you have the marriage certificate for the person who is your direct ancestor, to see what name and occupation is given for his father?

I'm thinking that we have to go back to square one and start all over again ...... because it really does seem to me that there are TWO people involved here, and that they have got intermingled.

In other words, we're going to have to re-trace that paid work that you had done.

Only this time it won't cost you a cent!!

We have to work backwards, to make sure that we are staying within the one family.

What we need from you is:-

your parent's names, date of marriage, occupations

what you have found out about your grandparents ....... names, occupations, birth etc

Brian

you don't have to reply to everyone individually!

I said that I knew that YOU had that information from the marriage and banns ....... but WE don't.

That is why I posted it ............ and to save other people looking it up to see what little nuggets of information we could mine from it

I did look at your tree on ancestry, and note that there is a very interesting array of occupations that you have for George.

From lithograpic printer to mason to waiter to hotel proprietor!

There's something there that doesn't make sense.

The lithographic printer would ahve requiered an appentice ship, and so would the mason. Most apprenticeships were 5-7 years in length.

I wonder if in fact there are TWO George William McArthur's, and you have maanged to get the two intermingled.

I presume that you have

a) the children's birth certificates to prove the names of mother and father?

b) and you have the marriage certificate that proves those two married each other.

Maybe we need to look for that other G W M'

I have to go out now, but I'll check back later
