My paternal gt grandmother was Alice Horrocks b1852 Salford. She had a sister Elizabeth and I think they both married Taylors, James and his eldest brother Joseph respectively. Sister Mary H Hoorocks lives with Joseph and Elizabeth in the 1881 census. Another GRU tree confirms this but says the girls parents are John Horrocks and Sarah Croft (and takes the Crofts way back) |

You could start by buying the birth cert. for the girls, that will give you their mothers name! |

This one has sister Elizabeth, so is this the one you think is yours? |

That looks hopeful, Catherine! That 1871 census I posted also has a sister Mary living with William and his wife - and the ages fit with your 1861 census. |

Do you have Alices exact date of birth? |

Possible death for Maria which would explain Alice and Mary living with their brother in 1871? |

Sorry rootgather, just added the birth onto my other posting to keep things together. Wasn't trying to cheat. |

I made that mistake when I first started and ended up doing a whole branch of the family over again. |

Harold, you seem to have the marriage cert. for John and Maria so could you give us some more info on John, please. |
