The witnesses were George Joseph Oliver and Ellen Ryan,
probably friends, the marriage certificate does not give an occupation.

I wasn't disputing the date and month of her birth - just the year

She must have been born no later than 1872

Michael the only information I have is what I wrote originally I have nothing else, a friend suggested I try the Genes board.

Thanks I will write and get a copy of his will, as you say he might have mentioned her in it.
I went into FMB and went back a year to 1872 and have found a Beatrice Alexandra BATTY born 4th quarter so will send for that birth cert. to see if maybe it is her.

Hi Ivy Beatrice Alexander Batty born Ashton Under Lyne married in 1897 8d 743 J/A/S. to George Gurside Dewsnap.

So maybe not your Beatrice
