Even if funds weren't tight Shirley, you wouldn't be able to get birth certificates for George and Matthew as registration didn't start until the September quarter of 1837.

No such docs as birth certs before 1837 - dicsount the suggestion.

Have you tried googling to see if there is a Somerset OPC?

That might be a way to get info about Nathaniel's wife.

Did you, by any chance, notice the POSSIBLE baptism I posted?

Thanks Im learning more about all this everyday,I only started this because of my mother who was adopted and she use to cry about why her mother left her a barnardoes so I tried to find out.Thanks for your help.

George and Matthew may have had different mothers. There is a marriage for Nathaniel Cryer at St Peters, North Wootton on 30th September 1817 to Anne Nurse.

And a burial for Anne Cryer in North Wootton on 15th Feb 1830.
