Would like to hear from anyone with knowledge of a Perkins family who emigrated from the port of Dundee aboard the vessel Panmure arriving in NSW in 1887. They had a daughter Frances who may be my mysteriously missing GGmum. thanks.

Donna,

Can you please disregard the information on Francis Perkins & George Dagnall, she is to young.

Donna Report 10 May 2010 03:48

Thank you all but i am still lost. Frances Lucia Bennett nee Perkins was my GG mum. We can locate no records for her. No B, D or M and also no B for her daughter (my gran). She is listed in the Electoral Roll for Eden Monaro 1903 but 'disappeared' between then and when my gran married in 1913. My Gran was born 1893 so have to assume Frances born about 1870ish. Not even sure what nationality she was as noone living met her. Was hopng the passenger listing - only one i can find- would lead me to her or she was on someone elses tree already. Any ideas?? I have hit a major wall with this one!

Hi Donna,

Can you advise what your grandmothers name was (we may be able to work backwards)

Cheers

Donna, you still aren't giving enough info I'm afraid.

Your gran was born in 1893. Where? Her name? Her father's name?

There's no Bennett birth in 1893 in NSW with mother Frances. Or Perkins.

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingBirth.cgi

Do you know when and where Frances died? when and where your grandmother died?

Who is with Frances on the 1903 electoral roll (if anyone)?

Are your grandmother's parents' names stated on her marriage record?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 10 May 2010 07:01

Is this your grandmother by any chance?

death

marriage

That would seem to match with a 1952 marriage that would be your parents?

Unfortunately, if so, the hoped-for info isn't there: her mother's name.

And if so, any chance this is her husband?

Robert Perkins 19

This has to be the family of siblings who emigrated in 1887.

Yes ... you have this person in your tree:

Lydia Bennett
1892
Bodalla NSW, South Coast - New South Wales, Australia

How much easier it would have been with that info ...

Do you suppose there's any chance that this is your Lydia in someone's tree here:

Lydia Perkins
1889
Gympie, Queensland, Australia

and that her mother subsequently married Bennett in Queensland, which is why there is the absence from records for that period?

AmazingGrace08

AmazingGrace08 Report 10 May 2010 11:26

hI jANEY,

I checked the QLD birth records for Lydia Louise Perkins and the one born in Gympie, QLD shows parents as Frederick Perkins and Louisa Bosetta Keyser. There is also a sibling May Lydia born in 1894.

Lydia Louise Perkins died in 1894 so can't be the one you suggested as a possiblilty.

Regards

Rachelle

Donna

Donna Report 12 May 2010 14:18

Thank you Janey - sorry i didnt give you info re gran. The info you have found re: Lydia Louisa Bennett is my gran. Born 1883 apparently in Bodalla NSW. Apparently an only child, Her father was joseph bennett. Her M cert listed joseph and frances perkins as her parents. (I have the original 1913 cert) As i said before we have no BDMs at all for Frances Lucia Bennett/Perkins. She is listed in 1903 as Bennett with Joseph Bennett living in Bermagui NSW. After this she literally 'disapeared' off the face of the earth. There may have been some scandal - my elderly aunt thinks she may have 'run off'. My grandmother never spoke of her mother and my mum and her siblings never met nor heard about her. The bennett line traces back to the Shoalhaven area around Terara.

Donna Report 12 May 2010 14:35

if the Frances from Birmingham was Frances Adelaide then she is not the one. Pity - thought i might have been on to something. Does anyone have access to records from Victoria?
