I have found this possible birth that I wondered if it had been wrongly logged as Clarke - That sort of thing does happen, it took me 6 months when I was new to this to find my grandmothers birth which should have been under Whetton and was hiding under Wetton all the time.

and on 1911 there is a Henry and an Elizabeth in Rochford - there is also a Cyril Clark showing up in Rochford as born 1898. It would be interesting to see if Cyril is their child.

Never thought about that, but i thought you would have to show your birth certificate when you get married.

If he was Cyril Henry Clarke (with an e) there are more possibilities.

You don't suppose he could have lied about his age do you, if he was only 18 when he married.

Death index Dec 1981 chelmsford vol 9 pg 1775. also Olive Gertrude Mar 1974 chelmsford vol 4a pg 1659. But still can not find him on cencus.

Was she 22 on the marriage cert? and how old was Cyril on the cert please?
