Maybe the brower was a spelling mistake? She met him and must have married him young.

Samantha, it isn't a spelling mistake as such it is Brewer on the image it's just that the transcriber read it as an 'o'...

if you get the marriage cert it should be comfirmed by the fathers names on it.

I don't think Elizabeth had the same father as Fanny's other children, as in 1881 she is shown as widowed and Elizabeth was born in 1885 x

This looks like Fanny's death the year or so after Elizabeth was born

the 1891 shows this, I think this is Fanny's son, and I would guess that the 'Emily' below is actually Elizabeth... Fanny's two youngest still in the workhouse

Oh poor things, I am reading a book about the workhouses and they were awful. I have a feeling elizabeth's dad was not james as in 1881 fanny was already widowed x

Well that all makes sense then :) very sad that they were in the workhouse... so I'm afraid you won't know Elizabeth's father, but at least you have her mum's side of the family :)

Thank you Rose. Based on the books that I am reading it could be anyone perhaps? They were not good times for women. The trilogy by Jennifer worth in the 1950's is so good x
