Could someone please help me locate a birthdate of my late grandfather Thomas Daniel Hardman. He died 9-3-1951, aged 62 in Leigh,Lancashire. His fathers name was Edward Hardman. I have got the deathcertificate of him and also the marriage certificate of 1917 to my grandmother Sarah Ann Mather. I cannot find him as yet on freebmd either.
Thank you!

He could have been initially registered as Thomas Hardman.
Has jax found the correct family - If correct, only using Thomas on that census.

My grandmother had two completly different middle names on her marriage cert to what was on her birth cert.

edit - Edward worked in an Ironworks if that helps

Have you read my note at the bottom? the origanal is smudged
Also very unlikely his mother gave birth when she was 10

I cannot see him in 1891 so I expect they were living in Ireland at the time

This could be Edwards death

Had to dig about a bit but I think this is his parents marriage they married after he was born so he may have been registered in his mothers name

well if he was living at 60 Trafalgar st in 1901 and 1911 and you have a certificate with the same address it must be him.

The two Hardmans are margarets children with Edward
The two Hursts are neice and nephew

Alan, you may be under a bit of a misconception here -- when you say "your site" to jax.

jax and all the rest of us here are just paying members like tha'self, and we hang around the boards here to help other members with their puzzles. Some of us are very good at it -- way better than you'd get if you paid a "genealogist" -- jax included!

She seems to have hit the nail on the head, I think.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 14 Sep 2010 19:47

The marriage of the parents in the 1911 census:

Marriages Dec 1904
Burke Peter Leigh 8c 428
Hardman Margaret Leigh 8c 428

It would be a very good idea to get both of Margaret's marriage certificates. At least one of them should tell you what her status was when she married (single or widowed) and what her very first name, her birth surname, was.

It seems that Thomas was likely born Hardman, but we don't know whether Margaret was married when he was born.

jax

jax Report 14 Sep 2010 19:52

So I think you may find that Thomas was born in Ireland with either the surname Murphy or Hardman

jax

jax

jax Report 14 Sep 2010 19:54

As margaret was living with her brother in 1901 Murphy would be her maiden name.
Although the census says Thomas is stepson should say nephew
