Can't seem to find any census that lists a David Richards born abt 1876 in Wales with siblings William and Morgan and parents
Evan and Margaret. Think they lived in Goginan Nr Aberystwyth.
Can anybody help?

Looks like Patricia has them! Having said that, the names Morgan and Evan figure in the children 1901?

Have you got Jane Smith's name from her son's birth certificate?
When do you think Morgan was born - and where did you get the information about him?
Thanks

Goginan is next to Capel Bangor and or Banc Y Darren which is just above Aberystwyth .

Llanrhystud is too far down the country to be them and Festiniog is too far up,unless they moved Goginan way later on of course.

What certificates do you have Christine?

Here is Janet in 1911
SMITH, William Head Married M 62 1849 Retired Coal Miner Deputy Overman Durham Shildon
SMITH, Catherine Wife Married
33 years F 55 1856 Cardigan Melindwr
SMITH, Janet Daughter Single F 30 1881 Assistant School Mistress Durham Eldon

Registration District:
Aberystwyth Sub District:
Rheidol Enumeration District:
11 Parish:
Melindwr

Address:
Mount Pleasant Coginan County:
Cardiganshire

So Mr Richards must be around somewhere for them to have met.

Christine says it is not Janet but Jane. (But that 1911 Durham school mistress looks good).
If he were a mariner he could be over the horizon in 1911?

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 29 Sep 2010 23:26

Very true that he is prob at sea on 1911 Patricia

Janet is the only one to be found that would fit her birth and name(ish)in that area.
And fits the marriage.

We really need the birth years of Morgan and William ,brothers of David/Davy here, and you have to have certs every single step of the way for Welsh as they are too hard without ,what with them all having the same names.

How did you get the parents names for David ,Morgan and William Christine.?

I dont see Morgan Richards (Capt)on R.N records on NationalArchives

These are all the births for a Morgan Richards in Cards between 1861 and 1891.Morgan being less popular than David or William of course.

Births Mar 1862
RICHARDS Morgan Aberystwith 11b 64
Births Mar 1864
Richards Morgan Aberystwith 11b 59
Births Jun 1866
RICHARDS Morgan Aberystwyth 11b 57
Births Jun 1872
Richards Morgan Aberystwith 11b 73
Births Mar 1882
Richards Morgan Tregaron 11b 72

Found 2 Morgan Richards from Aberystwyth in 1911 (born 1864 and 1865) one a house painter and the other a clergyman. So he at sea also?

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 29 Sep 2010 23:54

I reckon Patricia.

We need some more feedback from Christine here as to their birth years and how 1876 was arrived at for David/Davey.Family bible maybe?.

That 1911 of Janet Smith just has to be Davy./Davids future wife..

Maybe she didnt like the name much or her hubby called her Jane..

Thanks for info so far, my aunt (dads sister) has mentioned capel Bangor
is where she last saw an uncle before he died so that adds up and she also told me they had lived at Mount Pleasant.

Christine

Christine Report 30 Sep 2010 17:56

Info my aunt gave me - Jane/Janet was named Jane Smith but preferred the name Janet so that is the name she was known by and she was a school misstress.
The year of David/Davy Richards was calculated by me as I remember my dad telling me he was abt 14 when his dad died and his dad was early 50's.
