hi i'm trying to find my great grandmother emma (nee matthews ) edwards .i have found her husband john gerrard edwards born 1896 in birmingham he's living in the acocks green area of birmingham in the 1901 and 1911 cenuses i can't find a marrige to emma i know she died in 1945 in birmingham i found this on bmd and the birth of my nan and her brothers but can't find any thing about her please please help if you can

Micheal, are you 100% sure about her maiden name? Getting your nan's (or one of her siblings) birth certificates will congirm her maiden name.

yes i checked the birth certs father john edwards and mother emma matthews i cant find anything

the gerald could be a type error when being added to this programme we do know that his mothers maiden name was gerrard so i that thats why it on the birth cert as gerrard i don't know how to trace his wife i have tryed every think that can be tryed and i can't get a marriage cert if they didn't get married i don't know if someone has the access to electrol rolls for the 1920's or 30's for the acocks green /tysley area of birmingham that could be a clue or access to burial records for that area to try and find it that for emma

Can you give us their years of birth and birthplace

Micheal - regarding the changing of a maiden name when used as a middle name on subsequent generations - this does happen. For example, one of my ancestor's surname was Neall but when this was given to male descendants as a middle name it changed to the more traditional Neil. Just something to bear in mind.

sorry they have all passed away now horald was the last to died in 2008 gladys his wife is still alive but had a stroke last year so it's hard to get any info on the family i did have a look the last time i poped in to see her in january haven't been able to get to her lately

please can you help us date jan 1945 she was age 45 in birmingham (acocks green) her address was 38 wetherfield road tyesley.
she was the wife of jack edwards a steam crane driver/ could be train driver
on her daughters (alice) birth cert we have mother emma edwards formerly matthews and father john edwards living at 53 ravenhurst street birmingham (kings norton)
i can't find a marriage or a birth for emma

could someone tell brummiejan about this

you found the record of death on the last thread was wondering if you could find any more on this same person i.e maybe a marriage or birth on emma in birmingham or anywhere as i have tryed so hard but i am getting lost in the info i have on the death cert and birth cert for my nan emma's daughter alice may edwards born 31st july 1925 birmingham father john edwards i think i have found and his family john gerrard or gerald edwards born 1896 acocks green birmingham
he's on the 1901 cenus there but don't have any info for emma like that to move on with her family

my mum has pm and said there is a birth for an emma matthews jan 1900 in birmingham but can't pick this up on bmd 4D 469

Jack could be short for John and Emma short for Emily...
