Herbert Hook never married again I just said he had another Family in Bristol. When he died he was buried in Greenbank cemetary Bristol. My mother in law has very few memories of her father and she was only given a small amount of his belongings his birth certificate was not one and only one photograph with a woman and baby and her father and on the back a Toronto address. Be assured that the only record he might have left in canada would be a marriage he was not born or died in canada.

You are looking for records of William Herbert Cook in Canada. Three of us have done what we can to try to find any record.

I, for example, have searched censuses in two places and searched for marriages in two places, and spent a fair bit of time doing that. I've also given you his birth and death registration info in England. Nobody has suggested or imagined that he was born or died in Canada, by the way.

MM found the WWI attestation papers that we didn't know whether you had (if you had them, it is reasonable to think you would have mentioned the fact that his name was William Herbert Hook, not Herbert Hook, and then of course that would have saved some wild goose chases).

And mgnv has given information about how to go about ordering the complete service record, which is probably what is most likely to get you any information about him.

We still don't know how you know when he immigrated to Canada, and when he returned to England from Canada, that being info that would help for knowing when and where to search for records.

And you still haven't said anything more about the Mounties business you referred to at the beginning -- whether he was in fact in the RCMP, how you know that, etc., as that could be another avenue to explore for records.

It really is important to give all the info one has, and answer questions if possible, if someone else is to help. And it's wise to respond to suggestions, like the one about obtaining the full service record, so people know you've seen them and whether they're useful or you need any more information about them, etc.

There are only 7 listings for the surname Hook in Toronto at present. Of course, there are many places in the Toronto area where the family of someone born in Toronto in the 1920s, say, might be living now, for example Mississauga, four listings:

Or the family could have moved away from Toronto altogether. And that is assuming that the baby was the child of your Mr Hook and had the Hook surname, and had children with the Hook surname.

But still, it could be worth contacting Hooks in the Toronto area.

Googling "Herbert Hook" at google.ca (selecting Pages in Canada) finds a reference to Mrs Herbert Hook (Olive Lee). That would be the other Herbert, who married Minna O Lee, unfortunately. No results for "William Herbert Hook" or "William H Hook".

For pity's sake, Marilyn. What a big hoo hah. It isn't that "trouble" was caused, it's that efforts were made and we like to think they were useful, and you just weren't answering or responding. Your posts really did read as if you had paid no attention to anything posted.

It's hard to help someone with inaccurate information to start with, and it's wearing to keep trying when there is no response to questions and suggestions. But when that happens, none of us goes off in a huff and terminates our membership.

William Herbert Hook married Mary Elizabeth Weaver in Bedwellty, Monmouthshire in 1907. They had a daughter Dorothy in 1910. They are in the 1911 census living at 17 Cabot st, bristol, along with Mary's son from a previous marriage. William Herbert is a taxi driver at the time.
Mary and her children emigrated to Canada in Nov 1913 to join her husband. He had arrived in August 1913. Mary's mother Phoebe Weaver (nee Bate) also emigrated to Canada.
