Ozibird, Thank you so much. You guys are amazing BUT now I am really confused as to which one is my William. All those sisters but no brother John. A sister Martha sounds promising as William had a daughter Martha. The 1851 Census has a William B. abt. 1826 living with a John Bainbridge, Nailer and head of the house with William recorded as his brother. Is there any mention of Isaac's profession as a Nailer. According to the marriage certificate William was 26 at the time of his marriage in 1857 making his birth year 1831 yet the 1861 and1871 census has his birth year as 1829. Now according to the IGI he was born 1823. Any explanation? Patricia.

Ozibird,
Any mention of Isaac's wife Elizabeth's maiden name? Patricia.
|
I'll start with his age: at that time people weren't so hung up on age. They didn't have to fill out forms with their date of birth. So there was no real reason to be accurate. It looks like John is a father-figure and probably didn't know William's true age.
Mother's maiden name: Unfortunately very few parish records record this. You're lucky if they give the mother's name at all. The way people go about it is to find all the ch'n of that couple then guestimate the marriage year, and go looking.
I'm using IGI to find the parish records of your Bainbridges. beta.familysearch.org and http://www.familysearch.org
Now this is an interesting one as William's brother on the 1851 census was born in Appleby c1801. Name John Bainbrigg Gender Male Baptism/Christening Date 28 Dec 1800 Baptism/Christening Place St. Lawrence, Appleby, Westmoreland, England Father's Name Isaac Bainbrigg Mother's Name Elizabeth

Ozibird, Thank you so much. I am sure this is my family of Bainbridges. Seems that between 1809 and 1811 they moved from Appleby to Kirkby Stephen. I will now look to see the distance between these villages, both in Westmoreland so I guess they won't be too far apart. You are very kind and I very much appreciate all the research you have done. William certainly came from a large family and seems he named his three children after his brother John and sisters Jane and Martha. Thank you. Regards, Patricia.
