These two sisters were born 1880 and 1878 resp. in Stonham Aspel SUFFOLK. they were inmate paupers in St.Margarets Ipswich on the 1891 census. Please does anyone have any further details after this ie partner children etc. Lily Rose Thurlow may or may not be my grandmother who married F MUNNS Newmarket 1900. THERE ARE NO PARENTS ON THE WEDDING CERT.

Janice, does Lily's age on the certificate tie in with what you know?

Is there an address given for her on the certificate, and what are the names of any witnesses?

Janice

Janice Report 4 Dec 2010 14:49

Thank you i have this it is the next generation I want. Jan

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 4 Dec 2010 14:52

Jan, we usually post a census for reference for ourselves so that we make sure we're chasing the right people.

We can't see all of the information that you have so we need a starting point.

Janice

Janice Report 4 Dec 2010 14:54

The address is 2 Vine Terrace Exning Witness Sophie Edwards AND CHARLES GILBERT

Jan, according to a tree on Ancestry the same Lily Rose from that 1881 census was married three times - to Frank Charles Munns, Herbert Black and Arthur Morris.

Do you have access to Ancestry?

Janice

Janice Report 4 Dec 2010 15:04

Frank died 1904 ish she then married Herbert Black1905, but I was hoping someone had another lily rose from about this time.

Janice

Chris - think your 1901 is spot on because a Charles Gilbert was a marriage witness.

Jan - when you say it was your cousin, did you mean that's your cousin's tree on ancestry? If so, do you have any reason to doubt that they have the correct Lily Rose?

Janice

Janice Report 4 Dec 2010 15:14

thank you yes I do doubt it but from before 1900 . Grandma always said her birth was never registered and her parents weren't married which is why I wanted to follow up these sister.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 4 Dec 2010 15:17

There is this birth record, but it's not Lily Rose:

Surname Given Name District Volume Page
Births Dec 1880
THURLOW Lilly Bosmere 4a 640

The district Bosmere is in the county of Suffolk, it covers Stonham A.

There isn't any other Lily born Suffolk around that time that I can find.

Edit: Postings crossed - just seen Jan's comment re gran's birth not registered. How would gran have known?

Janice

Janice Report 4 Dec 2010 15:19

Please can you findher after 1900?

Janice

Janice Report 4 Dec 2010 15:24

I hadn't thought of that perhaps she wanted to forget her start in life?

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 4 Dec 2010 15:29

It's possible, Jan.

If she'd been orphaned and had no documents, then perhaps she mightn't have really known much about her background? Did she ever mention any brothers or sisters?

Janice

Janice Report 4 Dec 2010 15:30

No and family histor was taboo.
