Census 1911 says they had only been married 8 yrs and so Aileen nee Baldwin would only have been about 14 when they married (which was perfectly legal).

Census does say 2 children had died by 1911, but if marriage was only 8 yrs, say c1902-3, does that give them time to have had 3 children born in India?

Were they all definitely born in India, or could they have perhaps had, and lost one of them later?

there are 3 listings on FMP of Castledine births in Calcutta

Errick Edward 1905 army births returns page 309 or 509 (difficult to read)

GRO REGIMENTAL BIRTH INDICES (1761 to 1924)1761 - 1924
Errick E (place Calcutta, year 1905, regt RA, vol 558, page 13) the other has same details but the volume and page number are difficult to read

Thank you for your reply unfortunately it 's the 2 that born before Eric that I am trying to find out about. My granfather Frank told me that his mother had three children before him but he never knew the babies.

Aileen did indeed marry when she was 14 (although marriage certificate says different) and she HAD to get married. she was carrying my grandfather (Frank) on the way back to England.

Beryl would have been one of the two children given as deceased on the 1911 census

Linda

Linda Report 16 Jan 2011 15:56

I thought that Beryl died after the census (she died in May). If she is indeed one of the 2 that died then i only have one to find which I still am convinced that it was born in India. It's the family story of "well Aileen HAD to get married "

Linda

Linda Report 16 Jan 2011 16:02

Silly me I am only looking for one baby of course I see now that Beryl was one of the babies recoreded as deceased on the census records. Thank you for pointing out what I was blinkered to .
