I wanted to tidy this thread up before checking out the possible new date for Elizabeths death. Thank you all, lots of information to consider. I am also going to look into Elizabeth Francis who was adopted by Emma Pilbeam and Henry Creasy. I noticed she is still called Francis on the 1881 census and also the 1891 census, but so far have not found her whereabouts after that. Maybe adoptions where more laid back in those days. Kindest regards Anita

It might explain why she wanted to hold onto her family name.

I mailed the lady whose tree I found her in on Genes some four years ago but she had not followed through and found any further information.

I have a copy of a census with Emma her sister and Elizabeth, Henry I am guessing is dead as Emma is recorded as Head. Elizabeth is recorded as Nurse Child?

I had seen that birth for Elizabeth Creasey Francies and wondered if she was the one,as she was about the right age to be having children in 191301915.

My goodness where to begin lol. Once again thank you all..
This is the certicate I have and it is not! my grandmother.
Frances E Brett
Death Registration Month/Year: 1956
Age at death (estimated): 83
Registration district: Surrey North Western

Thanks for the Archie Groom. I tried Richie as it is unclear on the 1911 census.

Sorry to complicate things but the little I remember of my grandmother she was always known as Elizabeth Francis and right up to the book for their son who died she is still recorded as such. Have a look at the commemoration on my website.

The Pilbeams are interesting, Emma Pilbeam and Henry Creasy adopted an Elizabeth Francis 1887 born either Croydon or Marylebone London, daughter of Cornelius Francis1850 and Charlotte Weatherall 1854 London. I have no idea of the circumstances

The death date for 1956 looks interesting.

Maybe they just lived together as man and wife as maybe the wife of Maurice was still alive.
Even so if the 2 children were her only ones, she started a bit late don't you think.

Mary

Mary Report 29 Jan 2011 15:06

Ni I can't see one either, maybe Anita could tell us which she means.

The 1911 census with the nephew Groom should read Archie

Archie Vernon Groom born 1893 to Frank Groom 1859 and Annie.

Archie died in WW1 7/10/1916.

I know its of no use but i just thought i would post it.

Yes, I agree. Just that I cannot see any Elizabeth Brett in the right area and years.
For Brett deaths in Surrey south eastern, nothing likely.

Mary

Mary Report 29 Jan 2011 14:39

I saw those two Frances e 1959 and frances e 1956.

But it doesn't seem likey if she was Elizabeth (Francis maiden name)Brett
that she would die Frances Brett,if you get what I mean.

Any possibility it was this death:
Frances E Brett
Death Registration Month/Year: 1959
Age at death (estimated): 82
Registration district: Surrey Mid Eastern
Inferred County: Surrey
Volume: 5g
Page: 204
(Could be male? Can you remember if she used Francis/Frances at all. or would it definitely be under Elizabeth?)

I think she should really be under Surrey South Eastern, just having problems finding her.

What name is on the death between 1956-9

Maryb

Anita

Anita Report 29 Jan 2011 13:15

Difficult to be precise. Between 1956 and 1960. Either Redhill Hospital or Reigate at her home. These are very close and are both in Surrey. I think most likely the hospital as we , mum and I visited not long before she died.
