Hi thanks to Catherine & Rootgatherer, for your replies, it has given some more room for thought. My Mother-in-law was a woman of mystery.
We have a thought that she may have changed names and ages during herlife time - the grandchildren are curious toknow why - anyhow thanks for giving some tracks to go down - appreciated..

Hi again, missed the reply about Lawrence McQuiggan. Yes that is the right person. His father was from an Irish family that settled in ormskirk Southport. Yes was married at Gretna. They had 2 boys the first was adopted and the second boy died as an infant. The Angus name was suppose to be after Queenies Father and John after Lawrences Father. I was going to try and open this marriage cert but from what you say this is not allowed, I wonder why?

No but you can order it on SP. The reason is that they can only be opened up to 1935 I think for the privacy of live people.
