Sammy Report 14 Mar 2011 10:19

Hello,
I am trying to find information on Susannah Jane, Daughter of Beatrice Martha Williams and Thomas Ostell.
Beatrice was born in 1881 in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria
Thomas was born 1883 also in Barrow.
From what I have found Susannah died on February 14th aged 12 years.
I am using the information from the grave stone which is very corroded so hard to read.
I am trying to link her in to the family tree but am struggling to find information about her, or about how she died.
If anyone can help I would be ever so grateful
Thank you
Samantha

Finding how she died won't help you to link her to your tree

WHO in your tree do you think may be related to this family?

In which year did Susannah die?

Flick

Flick Report 14 Mar 2011 10:45

Barrow in Furness was in Lancashire in those days

I agree.
Just thought if we can find the death of 12 yr old S.J. it would give us her surname.

I am limited on information that i can provide, it is a grave stone that i am going from and cannot add my grandmother on to it until i can find the details for who is in the grave already, but Susannah seems to be a mystery, i cant find any mention of her anywhere.
Her surname is not mentioned on the grave, i think this is an impossibility.
thank you all for your help :)

So Susannah aged 12 could be ANY relation, or none.

The burial records for the church/ cemetery should be able to tell you who is interred in the grave.

Sammy

Sammy Report 14 Mar 2011 11:24

no my grandfather was Thomas Ostell and his wife Beatrice

Flick

Flick Report 14 Mar 2011 12:55

Where is the graveyard?

Is Susannah's the only name on the headstone?

Is there any other wording in relation to her?

What led you to think that her surname was Ostell?

Sammy

Sammy Report 14 Mar 2011 13:06

its in barrow in furness, it says her name as Susannah Jane only
I have photos of the headstone but struggle to read it
I assumed she may be an ostell as Beatrice married Thomas so assumed she was their child.

Well, the records indicate otherwise................

What made you latch on to this person?

At the moment, you are not giving any reason for your train of thought, so helping you is difficult, to say the least

Sammy

Sammy Report 14 Mar 2011 13:45

well i need to know who she is for two reasons,
Both my Nana and Grandad are burried in a grave that doesnt have their names on.
I need to find the details of who is on the grave first before we can add them to it and get a new head stone.
When we asked at the cemetery they couldnt find the information?
So ive had to resort to some good old research, which I seem to mainly be hitting walls with.
Also i cannot find where she would fit in to my tree.
I have a feeling that she may have been Martha Williams and Thomas Williams daughter, and the confusion is due to the corrode on the stone.
They are the parents of Beatrice Martha Williams which someone has already confirmed.
But again cant find Susannah

Just for reference - I have an ancestors grave and on discovering who else was buried there ( not mentioned on the headstone) I found that there was no connection - I was told they were simply neighbours .and it was probably cheaper to use an existing grave than to buy a new plot.

Ah right, that may be whats happened here then.
Hopefully ill stumble across her.
Thanks for all your help

Can't see a birth for Susannah in Barrow

If she is Beatrice's sister it's worth noting that her mother Martha was born in Wales.

Maybe check this one out ..
