There were 2 Boer Wars;-
1880-1881
1899-1902

JAN SMITH ... I am very sorry it dosen't say when she sorry , but its in his prayer book that was when he was a sergent
he also served in the 1899 boer war thanks

This seems to be the website to verify the entries in the prayer book. Service record should give clue on birth.

How to find army records for the Boer War [Archive] - B-G ...
My wife's ggfather is said to have fought in the Boer War, ... as they would not have been serving soldiers, or what their Queens South ...

i have hit a dead end with this , so frustrating we have this lovely prayer book with information about the solider henry g birks , the book some how came to our family william shipley and we wondered how ? the book is so intresting ,but we wanted to see if he was related to us .
we really need more information
