I gave up and bought a few credits so I could view the image on Ancestry as below. It is the right person. The image lists him as aged 21 and a seaman. He came from the Turks Island and his nearest relative from where he came from is listed as Father Anderson. I have the actual image of the record taken on the ship Keith if you want to send me a pm (private message) (Click on my name) I can email it to you

Name: Cornelius Simmons
Birth: abt 1898 - British West Indies

In addtion this could be him - the record states that the first finger to the second joint on his left hand was missing

There appear to be a number of records of various voyages when he is a sailor including the one below that lists him as a sailor with 10 years service in 1929. He is also listed as 5 ft and 6 inches high and weighing 147 pounds. He must have travelled widely. The last voyage I have found lists him as sailing into New York from Argentina, South America in early 1937

Keith -- no one here has access to birth records in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

It has been explained what to do.

Get Cornelius's marriage certificate to see what it says for his age and father's name. (He may not have given a father's name, but you need to know what it does say.)

It's even possible that if he had a brother or sister, they were a witness to his marriage.

Once you have the marriage certificate you can come back to this thread and post the information from it in case there is anything there that would help find more in English records.

Then enquire about having a search for his birth in the Turks and Caicos Islands. No one can do that for you. You can also ask there about having a search for births with the same parents.

That's a good start -- now hope it can be found!

The marriage certificate could still be useful.

This is where to order it, by the way:
