Hi I really need some help with tracing

Francis Henry Rodwell's parents
born i believe 24 oct 1847 leicester was told in a work house but cannot find any record of that though
was a chimmney sweep and also helped fund crafton street mission helpin the poor.
his wife was harriet think her surname was ragg or wragg 1846 born i think they got married in 1870 in stafford??
I think his father may be william rodwell and mother perhaps elizabeth mebberson or mebbison?? cannot find records

would it be too much to ask if anyone can perhaps confirm maiden surname of elizabeth please cannot find the marriage at all

Tree on ancestry says Mebberson...is it yours??? fist child born 1833 so unless there is a marriage in the parish records a birth cert for one of the children would be needed

If you just search for Francis Rodwell marriages you'll find this:

The problem is, it's been mistranscribed -- you can tell because "Penkridge" is in italics, so the volume or page number is wrong.

Just search then for Harriet, married Mar quarter 1870 in Penkridge.

There's a groom missing from this page in the results:

If you order the certificate in her name, with those details, you will get their fathers' names.

In the 1851 census:

that certificate will give you Elizabeth's surname.


I wondered whether the children being so spaced out in 1851 might have indicated a second marriage for one of the parents, but here they are in 1841 in St Margarets with Bishops Fee, Leicestershire:

Ellinor Rodwell 6 = Ellen (names were interchangeable)
James Rodwell 4
Charles Rodwell 5 MO

It seems there were some childhood deaths, explaining the gaps in 1851.

If that tree is yours on ancestry there seems to be a lot of exact info like date of birth and where.
If you have the birth cert surely his mothers maiden name is on it? or did you find this somewhere else?

yes, the tree is mine on ancestry I did answer that last night.

I have exact details for more recent ancestors but as to Francis's parents I have none other than he was a blacksmith.

Where did you get the name Mebberson from? thats what I was asking... is it from his birth cert?

My argument against putting names onto ancestry without any proof is that it will be copied by all and sundry and become fact.
Looking at names in the locality Mebberson is almost certainly a corruption of mabson , mappison or something similar.?
