Katherine was 23. The witnesses were Andrew and Ann, but census retruns for 1871/81 show her parents as Andrew and Jessie. She was born in Petty, invernesshire

Catherine in the 1891/1901 censuses was born in St Andrews

This says that George Tudor Hall (1862-1898) married Catherine Aderne.

Is there any chance at all of the 1901 census being produced

???????

-- or is it now seeming that the statement in the opening post that the family was in Gateshead in 1901 was based on an incorrect identification?

To all who have helped thanks for time, interest and info. It looks as if this is the end of the line. I've come across Catherine Aderne, but she proved NOT to be George's spouse-----unless George remarried, or married bigamously to Catherine Aderne, riding on the similarity of ADERNE to NAIRNE??. That would explain the Gateshead census...but this is a question which I guess will remain unanswered.
I have had a communication from 'Slug and lettuce' with info that George Hall was charged with forgery and other matters in the office of Glasgow City Chamberlain..and he was an accountant!!

Ian, I just don't understand why you're riding madly off in all directions instead of focusing!

The marriage certificate you have for *your* George -- does it say his occupation?

The George I posted in Gateshead in 1901 -- and I have asked over and over and over for you to tell us what 1901 household you were talking about in your *first post* and you have just refused to say -- that George was a waterman. I posted a George in the 1891 in Scotland who was a mariner and matched in other respects with the George in Gateshead in 1901.

You just aren't focusing on what you *know* and using it to find other info. If you know George's occupation from his marriage certificate, that is one bit of info that would be eminently helpful in evaluating other possibilities.

I have reviewed the 1901 Gateshead census and have decided I do not have the right George. His occupation according to the Marriage Certificate, of which I have the download-image, is 'Accountant'. In view of his offence of forgery and embezzlement from the Glasgow City Chamberlain, he would very probably have lost his position as an accountant. I reject Gateshead on other grounds of family consistency
