Find Ancestors

I am trying to find out some information about the above person, my great-great grandad. Apparently his original surname was Kidd but for some reason he changed it to Johnson. He had at least 2 sons, george frederick johnson born 1888 & charles, date of birth unknown. Family stories state that william killed himself by jumping off a bridge, but I don't know where or when exactly except that it was after 1906. He has also married at least twice (or so I've been told) and he may have had either a wife or daughter called edith.

sorry about the lack of information - this is all I know about him. Apparently he was a bit of a dubious character & heavy drinker so the information about him is quite vague !

How do you know William died after 1906 ?

You must know more as you are descended from him. One of his children must be your great grandfather/mother.

I assume George Frederick Johnson is your great grandfather so where was he born and who was his mother?

I know that William Richard Johnson he was alive in 1906 as he signed my great grandad's marriage certificate - but I haven't been able to identify him on any 1901 or 1911 census. My great grandfather George Frederick Johnson, is on the 1911 census as Fred Johnson and states that he was born in Louth, Lincoln, but I haven't been able to establish much more than that - i/e don;t know his mother's name or exact DOB.Also he may have been registered under the name of Kidd ???? sorry am quite new to all this. I think that William Richard Johnson may have been death registered under his original name of Kidd but again not sure only hearsay.

sorry - can add that on george frederick johnson's marriage certificate he put his age as 20 (16 April 1906) so he would have been born about 1886.

Was the William. Johnson who witnessed the marriage certificate definately the father?
It could have been the groom's brother or cousin perhaps. (especially as you can't find him in 1901)

George Frederick Johnson married Elizabeth Mervin 16 April 1906. He was 20 & she was 19. His father was William Richard Johnson, foreman. At the time they both lived at 2 Hollis Row, Earlswood. I know quite a bit about Elizabeth so that side is fine. The marriage certificate was witnessed by William Richard Johnson & Edith Johnson.
I have found George on the 1911 census under the name of 'Fred' Johnson and his place of birth is listed on the census as Lincoln.
